Proposed Members' Bills

The 54th Parliament was dissolved on 1 October 2026. All proposed members’ bills that were in the ballot at that time have been removed from the ballot and the website. Once the 55th Parliament opens, members who are not Ministers will be able to lodge proposed members’ bills. Once lodged, those proposed bills will be displayed on this page.
Members' bills are bills introduced by members who are not Ministers. Every second Wednesday the House prioritises local, private, and members' bills. On these days, members' bills are debated.
At least eight members' bills awaiting first reading must be on the Order Paper on each members' day. When a space on the Order Paper becomes available, a ballot is held to decide which members' bill(s) will be introduced Members enter bills in the ballot by lodging notices of proposal with the House Office, along with a copy of the proposed bill.  Members can lodge proposed bills on any working day. Proposed bills currently in the ballot are published on this page.
Members can publicly indicate their support for a bill that has been entered into the ballot. Members who have expressed support for a proposed bill are listed on that bill’s page. If 61 or more non-executive members indicate support for a member’s bill, the bill will be introduced without needing to be selected through the ballot.
