Worker Protection (Migrant and Other Employees) Bill
Bills are proposals to make a new law or to change an existing one. Only Parliament can pass a bill. Each bill goes through several stages, giving MPs and the public the chance to have their say.
The purpose of this omnibus bill is to improve compliance and enforcement legislation to deter employers from exploiting migrant workers. The bill also aligns the powers of the Labour Inspectorate and Immigration New Zealand, and supports greater collaboration between the two regulators to undertake compliance and enforcement activity.MP in charge
