Corrections (Management of Prisoners, and Prisoners’ Property) Amendment Bill

Government Bill
Published date: 30 Apr 2026

Bills are proposals to make a new law or to change an existing one. Only Parliament can pass a bill. Each bill goes through several stages, giving MPs and the public the chance to have their say.

This bill amends the Corrections Act 2004. Its most substantive amendments would establish a clearer statutory basis for the safe, lawful, and humane management of a small group of prisoners who pose an extreme risk that the Department of Corrections manages in prison.
