Russia Sanctions Bill

Government Bill
Published date: 09 Mar 2023

Bills are proposals to make a new law or to change an existing one. Only Parliament can pass a bill. Each bill goes through several stages, giving MPs and the public the chance to have their say.

This bill establishes a framework for implementing sanctions by New Zealand in response to the aggressive acts and other breaches of international law by the Russian Federation, in particular, its illegal invasion of Ukraine. These sanctions are to be imposed and enforced on individuals or entities that are responsible for, or are associated with, actions that undermine the sovereignty or territorial integrity of Ukraine or that are of economic or strategic relevance to Russia.
