Hurunui/Kaikōura Earthquakes Emergency Relief Bill

Government Bill
Published date: 05 Jul 2024

Bills are proposals to make a new law or to change an existing one. Only Parliament can pass a bill. Each bill goes through several stages, giving MPs and the public the chance to have their say.

This bill seeks to modify legislative constraints in the Resource Management Act 1991, in light of the emergency situation following the Hurunui/Kaikōura earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on 14 November 2016, to ensure that efforts can be put into recovery, while providing that the underlying purposes of the Resource Management Act are met.
