Local Government (Electoral Legislation and Māori Wards and Māori Constituencies) Amendment Bill

Bills are proposals to make a new law or to change an existing one. Only Parliament can pass a bill. Each bill goes through several stages, giving MPs and the public the chance to have their say.

The policy proposals of this omnibus bill are to reinstate polls on Māori wards and Māori constituencies, require councils to hold a binding poll at the 2025 local elections, and adjust the statutory time frames for local elections.
