Local Government (Auckland Council) (Transport Governance) Amendment Bill

Government Bill
Published date: 06 May 2026

Bills are proposals to make a new law or to change an existing one. Only Parliament can pass a bill. Each bill goes through several stages, giving MPs and the public the chance to have their say.

This bill is intended to improve the transport system in Auckland by establishing the Auckland Regional Transport Committee to undertake strategic transport planning, transferring most transport functions from Auckland Transport to Auckland Council, allocating decision making for local transport functions to Auckland local boards, and reforming the role and functions of Auckland Transport.
